The reason for the electoral college has now died with the growth of political parties. the founding fathers originally included the electoral college to give states with small populations more of an equal weight in the presidential election. They also didn't trust the common man to be able to make a correct decision on which candidate would make the best president. they didn't want the wrong person to be picked for the biggest job in America. I believe that the electoral college was once a good thing for our country, but Is no longer very important.
